The Marvel Chapter Of Hawkeye And Kate Bishop

Disclaimer: Spoilers Alert!!! Make sure you have watched before you read.

Where are my hawkeye fans at?!

Now let's be real, who isn’t a fan of Hawkeye? I mean don’t get me wrong I am a huge marvel fan and I am obsessed with them all for different reasons but Hawkeye, who couldn’t be his fan? From the first time I watched Avengers, I always wondered if would we see the films, the stories behind the heroes and the Avengers. And they are happening people, I mean Black Widow, come on if you haven’t seen it ya need to and with so many more to come out I can't wait… but the original series of Hawkeye! Well, Marvel just keeps giving and I love it now. Hawkeye the original series is not exactly his story but a chapter that focuses more on him and the most important mission of his life - getting home to his family at Christmas. But when a 22-year-old skilled archer named Kate Bishop unintentionally takes on the tracksuit mafia and accidentally brings back a piece of Clint’s past, well it wouldn’t be like Hawkeye to kick his feet up and just watch now would it?

Hailee Steinfeld, a great actress, took on the character of Katie bishop and honestly I think they hit the nail on the head with this choice. Through many of her other movies, she has always included that comedy side which shone through in Hawkeye, no doubt with her comical comments and entertaining attitudes, as well as creating this rich girl with a different look and views with her tomboyish tough style. From the moment she was a little girl with a front row seat at the alien invasion in 2012 when The avengers were born from that day she saw the man himself save her. From that day she lost her father, only to not realise how different her life was gonna be till the moment she said “I need to protect us, I need a bow and arrow”. That was the day a new superhero was born because instead of living in fear she embraced it because of the inspiration she witnessed from Hawkeye himself.

Watching the fighting scene in Avengers, no one at the time was thinking of all the moments that were happening before that until one moment was captured in which the chapter of Kate Bishop and her world was opened; before her father died he said something in which she carried with her and that was “some people forget there are things they can’t control, the choices they make in the face of it”. Powerful and relatable right? That was the moment her father set the course of what happened after he died, I mean think about it… she was a kid, she could have let herself be consumed with fear but instead, she used her dad's words to become strong, independent and smart, which you see in the intro cartoon-like setting of a shadow like the figure of Kate’s childhood; learning archery, gymnastics, fencing, how to fight, how to be strong. From an outside perspective you might think it could be her being described as an overachiever and competitive, but inside it was the only way she thought she could protect her mother and herself, the only way she could be ready for whatever comes next and her story has just begun.

Now, of course, we can’t forget about the main man himself Jeremy Renner creating Hawkeye himself just a man with his bow and arrow becoming one of the most epic heroes ever but still a man of mystery. I enjoyed the way Kate Bishop or as he called her “The little girl in a ninja suit who stole my Christmas” charmed Clint into unwillingly mentoring her. Clint never sees himself as a hero, he refers to himself as “a weapon” but Kate describes Clint in a way I think we can all agree with; she said, “You keep your cards close to your vest which you wear over a suit of armour and like 16 other layers of self-protection all of which under finally is your heart”. Again, so powerful yet relatable. One of the best lines he said was when asked what was the best shot he took and he answered with “The one I didn’t make”, clearly talking about his best friend and a personal favourite of mine the one and only Black Widow, the queen, Natasha Romanoff.

By far one of my favourites from episode 3. 17 minutes in, the car chase, great angles, comical dialogue and the best part - TRICK ARROWS! Yes, trick arrows, they were wicked and I won't spoil but what I will say is PYM if you know you know and if you don’t well, you will. Also loved the “LARP” scene, comical characters, and funny dialogue and brought something different to the episodes which I liked. However, I have to ask, did anyone else automatically think of Nick Fury when they saw “Pizza dog” or is it just me, I mean come on that had to have been a thing right?

Classic Marvel studio intro showcasing all the Marvel legends in perfect time with the Avengers theme tune which will never get old, throughout the 6 episodes of Hawkeye the soundtrack was spot on, including a few personal favourites such as Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and all the classic Christmas songs you could think of, along with thrilling well-choreographed stunt and fighting scenes and heart strings were pulled on Clint’s flashbacks, that's for sure.

Wait! Hold on! … did someone say badass bitch entering? And no, I wish I was talking about the queen herself Natasha Romanoff, I am talking about her sister Yelena. Yes, that's right her sister is in Hawkeye but I wish I could say it was under better circumstances, the truth is as you know from the credits of Black Widow, Yelena was made to believe that Clint was responsible for the death of Natasha, which we all know is far from the truth. One thing that I know everyone will love is the comical relationship between Yelena and Kate, it will have you cracking up.

There are also many other comical and interesting characters including Alaqua Cox who played Maya; a dead woman with an obsession with hunting Ronin, the one that killed her father. But there may be more to that story than she realises. As well as Jack, who seems the obvious villain but thinks again and many other characters that will have you laughing and yelling at the screen. A small but unique and emotional scene between Yelena and Clint that I hoped for but by the end of Hawkeye the partnership that you can’t love between Clint and Kate, the skills, comical conversation and powerful moments, just love love love! I can't wait to see what season 2 could be or if it will be the start of the new hero in training Kate or is it Hawk Girl? Guess we will wait and see.

Now don’t get me wrong, the Hawkeye series was epic, each episode left on a cliffhanger moment and the ending scene seemed like a new start, but now I can only hope the movie of Clint Barton and how Hawkeye began happens.

Thank you again Marvel studios for another epic series!
