Christmas has always been my absolute favourite time of the year. There’s just something magical about the lights twinkling in the streets, the smell of cinnamon and pine in the air, and that cosy feeling you get when you’re wrapped up in a blanket with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
One of my all-time favourite festive traditions is watching Christmas movies, usually in my PJs and fluffy socks, of course! Whether it’s a snowy Sunday afternoon or a late-night movie marathon, these films never fail to get me into the Christmas spirit.
So, grab your blanket, pour yourself a hot chocolate (extra whipped cream if you’re like me), and here are my top 10 Christmas movies that make the season feel extra special:
1. Home Alone Collection
An absolute classic and one of my ultimate favourites! I can never get bored of watching Kevin outsmart the Wet Bandits with his clever traps. The best one in the collection for me has to be Home Alone 2: Lost in New York; the city lights, the music, and the Christmas chaos make it unforgettable. My favourite scene is when Kevin sets up all the traps in the old building, it literally has me in stitches every time.
2. The Santa Clause Collection
Another timeless favourite that just screams Christmas! I love how it blends humour and heart, and Tim Allen is perfect for the role. Every film in the series gives me that warm, nostalgic feeling.
3. Elf
SANTA!!! If you know, you know. Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf is iconic. It’s hilarious, feel-good, and full of festive cheer, the kind of film that can make anyone smile, no matter what mood you’re in. Plus, does anyone else really want to try the sweet/sugar spaghetti? Cause I really do!
4. Operation Christmas Drop
A hidden gem I discovered a few years ago on Netflix who’s main female character Erica is played by the fantastic Kat Graham who has been a favourite of mine for a long time, plus the storyline has a lovely mix of romance, kindness, and Christmas spirit. It’s the kind of film that reminds you what the season is all about, giving and connecting with others.
5. Holiday in the Wild
This one isn’t your typical Christmas movie, but it’s beautiful. The African scenery, the wildlife, and the emotional storyline makes it something truly different. It’s heart-warming and peaceful, the perfect film for when you want a slower, more reflective festive watch.
6. Love Actually
You simply can’t have Christmas without this movie! It’s full of charm, chaos, and emotional moments that capture every side of the festive season. From the airport scenes to the iconic cue-card confession, it never fails to make me smile especially Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister dance in his shirt and underpants!
7. The Holiday Calendar
As I’ve said previously I’m such a fan of the lead actress Kat Graham, and the concept of a magical advent calendar is just so fun. It’s one of those cosy, light-hearted movies you can put on any evening in December and instantly feel Christmassy.
8. The Holiday
A romantic comedy that’s as comforting as a cup of hot cocoa. The mix of love, friendship, and self-discovery is perfectly balanced, plus, the snowy English cottage scenes are just beautiful. It’s a must-watch every year! It also has so many big-name actors and actresses, including the brilliant Cameron Diaz and the absolutely hilarious Jack Black.
9. The Grinch (Animated Version)
I was never really a fan of the original, but when the animated version came out, I absolutely loved it. It’s colourful, funny, and surprisingly emotional. Plus, it’s a great reminder that Christmas isn’t about presents; It’s about people and spending time with the ones you love.
10. Scrooge
This one has such a special place in my heart, not because I’m a super fan of the movie (honestly, I’m not), but it has grown on me over the years. It’s a family tradition to watch scrooge on Christmas Eve, as my mum used to watch it with her dad every Christmas. Watching it together now feels like carrying on that memory, and it always fills me with warmth when I see my mum’s face light up with happiness.
For me, Christmas movies are more than just background noise, they’re memories in motion. They remind us of childhood excitement, family traditions, and the joy of slowing down for a few hours to simply feel festive and make memories. Whether it’s laughing at Buddy the Elf’s chaos or tearing up at Love Actually’s airport scene, every film on this list brings its own little bit of magic.
So this December, take some time for yourself, get cosy, and press play on your favourite Christmas classics because sometimes, the best way to find the Christmas spirit is through the stories that make us believe in it all over again.
