I love a good movie night, and 2025 has already delivered so many amazing films and TV series. I know there’s still plenty more to come before the year is over, but I couldn’t resist putting together a quick rundown of my favourites so far.
Don’t worry no spoilers here (I’d hate if someone ruined it for me, so I won’t do it to you). Instead, here’s a quick snapshot of each one I think is worth adding to your watchlist. So grab some popcorn and, when you end up loving these, you can say, “Hell yes, Alex, you were right!”
Dolce Villa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m a sucker for any movie about a girl finding her way in life moving to a sunny, beautiful country, taking on the world, and reconnecting with a family member who’s also a bit lost. I won’t say more, but I loved this. If you need a motivational, “you can do it” kind of film, this is the one.
Back In Action ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a brilliant on-screen duo! Cameron Diaz instantly hooked me she’s such a fantastic actress and Jamie Foxx brought his trademark charisma and comedy. They worked perfectly together, delivering a movie that was hilarious, action-packed, and full of great supporting cast members. Easily one of my new favourites.
XO, Kitty – Season 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I adored Season 1 (and the movies that started it all), so I had high hopes for Season 2. While there were a few things that didn’t sit quite right with me, it still delivered plenty of drama, comedy, and heartwarming twists. Four stars because it kept me entertained from start to finish.
Book Club: The Next Chapter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Feel-good comedies are my happy place, and this sequel delivered exactly that. The cast is legendary, their chemistry is unbeatable, and there’s a lovely mix of humour, inspiration, and even a nod to the Covid years. I really hope there’s another chapter I’m not done watching these ladies get up to mischief!
The Electric State ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Action, comedy, and surprisingly emotional robots yes, robots. Millie Bobby Brown was brilliant (as always), and the male lead brought his comedic charm. The storyline felt fresh and unique, and I was shocked at how much heart it had. Definitely worth adding to your 2025 list.
The Residence ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As a detective-show lover, I went into this expecting to be hooked and I was… mostly. The mystery was intriguing with great twists, but I did find the killer a little too predictable. Still, the main actress was hilarious and played her role brilliantly. If you enjoy puzzles and crime dramas, it’s worth a watch.
Nonna’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was worried this would be too sad, but it turned into a beautiful, heartwarming story. The main male lead wasn’t who I’d picture for the role, but he pulled it off brilliantly. A bittersweet but uplifting watch.
Old Guard 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved the first Old Guard movie years ago and have been hoping for a sequel ever since. This one didn’t just meet expectations it upped the game. The action scenes were incredible, the storyline was gripping, and the new characters fit right in.
Sandman – Season 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Season 1 was already dark, mysterious, and full of riddles and puzzles… and Season 2 somehow topped it. We got to dive deeper into Sandman’s twisted, chaotic family, especially his sister Delirium played to perfection. And just when I thought it was over, surprise! More episodes dropped. OH. MY. GOD. (Literally, since Sandman’s a god.)
My Oxford Year ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love a feel-good romcom, especially with a talented actress who can sing beautifully too. Oxford’s stunning mix of city and countryside was the perfect backdrop. I thought I knew where the story was going romantic comedy, happy ending but there was a twist that really pulled on the heartstrings. Also, big shout-out to the lead male, who was brilliant in Queen Charlotte and nailed this role too.
Wednesday Season 2; Part 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I gave this five stars before I even pressed play. The first season was epic, so I knew the second would be incredible and it was. More of Wednesday’s family backstory, fantastic casting, and unpredictable twists kept me hooked. My only complaint? They split it into two parts, so now I’m stuck waiting until September for the rest!
Overall, these Films and T.V series delivered exactly what I hoped for engaging storytelling, memorable performances, and moments that stuck with me long after the credits roll. Whether you’re watching it for the cast, the plot, or just a good night in with popcorn, I’d happily recommend adding these to your watchlist.
