In May, Elliott and I spent a beautiful sunny Saturday morning visiting the National Flower Show at Hyland's Estate, and honestly, it was such a lovely way to spend a few hours.
The show was filled with gorgeous flowers, plants and displays, with something beautiful to look at everywhere you turned. Even if you're not a gardening expert, it's impossible not to appreciate the colours, creativity and effort that goes into putting everything together.
One of my personal highlights of the day was eating a sprinkle-overloaded whipped ice cream at 10am. Was it an acceptable breakfast choice? Probably not. Did I enjoy every second of it? Absolutely.
As we wandered around, we stopped at plenty of food and drink stalls offering samples, which is always one of the best parts of any event. There was such a huge variety on offer, from sweet treats and freshly baked bread to different cultural foods, Lots of cheese and unique drinks. One drink that really stood out was a sweet potato coconut rum, which sounds unusual but was actually amazing.
Of course, we couldn't leave without visiting Becky’s Bakes. Their selection of cakes, cookies and sweet treats looked incredible, but what made them even more impressive was the size of them. I'm not exaggerating when I say these desserts were absolutely huge. They were basically sweet treats on steroids. And OMG! They tasted amazing!
I also really enjoyed the indoor gifts and crafts area. The stalls were beautifully presented, and there were so many unique products you simply wouldn't find on the high street. Elliott and I couldn't resist treating ourselves to a gorgeous blue checkered throw for our future home, which immediately caught our eye.
The arts and crafts tent was another favourite of mine. There was so much creativity packed into one space, from handmade artwork to unique crafts and gifts. As someone who enjoys creative hobbies myself, I found it really inspiring seeing so many talented people showcasing their work.
The absolute highlight of the show, however, had to be the floral displays inside Hyland's House itself. The manor house was breathtaking. The ceilings, architecture and attention to detail were stunning, and it felt like stepping back in time. Inside was the Wild West-themed florist displays which were incredible, Each display had its own story, style and colour scheme, and it was fascinating to see how different florists interpreted the theme in completely different ways.
For just £15 per person, I thought the event was fantastic value for money. It wasn't rushed, it wasn't overcrowded, and it was simply a really enjoyable and relaxing way to spend a Saturday morning.
I think the best days out aren't the big expensive adventures. They're the simple ones where you can wander around, discover new things, eat far too many sweet treats and Cheese and enjoy spending time together.
The National Flower Show was definitely one of those days.
