Gardens You Should Visit in the UK

The UK is home to some truly beautiful gardens, from peaceful historic spaces tucked away in busy cities to vast landscapes filled with flowers, waterfalls, and incredible views. Gardens are often the perfect escape; a place to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of nature. Whether you love colourful flowers, historic ruins, or sweeping botanical landscapes, these gardens are some of my favourite places to visit.

Sky Garden; London:

Located high above the streets of London, Sky Garden feels like stepping into a city oasis. Sitting at the top of one of the capital’s most modern buildings, it offers stunning panoramic views across the London skyline. The space combines sleek, modern architecture with lush greenery, creating a calm, garden-like atmosphere in the middle of a bustling city. It’s the perfect place to wander among the plants while looking out over landmarks like the Thames and the Shard.

Eden Project; Cornwall:

The Eden Project in Cornwall is unlike any other garden experience. Its iconic beehive-shaped biome structures house incredible ecosystems from around the world. Inside, you’ll find lush tropical plants, fascinating landscapes, and an inspiring focus on nature and sustainability. Outside, the surrounding gardens are just as beautiful, making it a fantastic place to explore for hours. And of course, no visit feels complete without stopping for a delicious creamy ice cream while enjoying the scenery.

St Dunstan in the East Garden; London:

One of the most magical gardens in London has to be St Dunstan in the East. This beautiful space sits within the ruins of a historic church that was damaged during the Blitz in World War II. Instead of rebuilding it completely, the remains were transformed into a garden. Today, ivy and plants climb the old stone walls, creating a stunning mix of history and nature. Surrounded by tall city buildings, it feels like a secret sanctuary where you can sit, relax, and momentarily escape the busy streets of London.

Elizabethan Gardens; Devon:

Tucked away among the cobblestone streets of the historic Barbican area in Devon are the charming Elizabethan Gardens. This petite garden feels like a hidden retreat, offering a peaceful break from exploring the surrounding historic buildings. With carefully arranged flower beds and traditional design, it captures a sense of old-world charm and tranquillity.

Garden at 120; London:

Another hidden gem above the city is the Garden at 120, a rooftop garden that offers beautiful greenery alongside impressive city views. Like Sky Garden, it feels like a peaceful escape floating above the noise of London. The clean, modern design paired with carefully arranged plants creates a tranquil environment where you can take a break from the fast pace of city life.

Bodnant Garden; Wales:

Bodnant Garden in North Wales is a true paradise for garden lovers. The landscape is  filled with colourful flowers, elegant terraces, and stunning natural features. As you explore, you’ll discover hidden architectural details, charming pathways, picturesque wooden bridges, and even unexpected waterfalls. It’s the kind of place where every corner reveals something new, and after all that exploring, the nearby pasty shop is a must-visit for some of the most delicious pasties around.

Royal Botanic Garden; Edinburgh:

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a beautiful blend of serenity, history, and botanical wonder. The gardens are filled with a huge variety of plants, flowers, and trees, offering an incredible display of colours, textures, and scents throughout the seasons. Whether you’re strolling through the landscaped grounds or exploring the architecture, the garden feels peaceful and inspiring, a true celebration of nature’s beauty.

Gardens offer something truly special, a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature, even in the heart of busy cities. From hidden historic spaces to grand botanical landscapes, the UK is full of incredible gardens waiting to be explored.
