The Return of Board Games: Because Wi-Fi Can’t Beat Nostalgia

In a world full of scrolling, streaming, and constant notifications, there’s something surprisingly special about going back to something as simple as a board game, and for me, they’ll always be a win.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a little scroll through social media and a bit of online shopping like everyone else. But there’s just something about board games that technology can’t replace. The interaction, the laughter, the quality time; it’s a completely different kind of fun.
Board games bring people together in a way that screens just don’t. It’s the atmosphere that makes them so special, that mix of competitiveness and laughter, the little disagreements over rules, the excitement of winning, and the chaos when things don’t go your way. It’s all part of it. You’re not just sitting next to each other; you’re actually engaging, talking, reacting, and creating moments that you’ll end up laughing about for years.
For me, my ultimate favourite will always be Monopoly. I’ve got so many childhood memories of playing Disney Monopoly; the kind that just stick with you. Hours spent around the table, getting far too competitive and doing everything you can to get your favourite cards. Those are the moments that really stay with you.
My love for board games in particular, Monopoly has gave me the chance to teach my two nephews and niece how to play, and we’ve spent countless birthdays and Christmases sitting together for hours, completely lost in the game. Watching them enjoy it the same way I did just makes it even more special.
What I love most is that board games aren’t just fun; they’re actually good for you too. You learn without even realising it. Strategy, counting, patience, decision-making, it’s all there, but it never feels like work. It’s just part of the experience.
That’s why I don’t think board games will ever be a “been and gone” thing. No matter how advanced technology becomes, there will always be something special about sitting around a table with people you care about, fully present in the moment. No distractions, no notifications, just proper, simple fun.
For me, board games will always win. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about the game, it’s about the memories you make while playing it.
