Fig and Thyme Brunch in Devon

Whilst on a last‑minute weekend getaway to Devon, I enjoyed a fabulous brunch date with Elliott and our friends at Fig and Thyme Kitchen at the Barbican and what an absolute treat it was!

My first thoughts were casual boho vibes, The decor was simple yet effective, with a mix of vibrant colours and stylish wicker touches. It was a refreshing change from the floral, pretty, and bougie aesthetics I’ve seen in most brunch spots. Don’t get me wrong I love those too but this had a different charm that instantly stood out to me.

The visual highlights for me were the beautifully designed artificial floral display on the ceiling and the jungle‑boho‑themed bathroom. Both added a quirky, Instagram‑worthy touch to the whole experience.

I happily indulged in a plate of avocado on sourdough bread, topped with fresh tomatoes, a perfectly cooked egg, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Honestly, it was one of the best brunch experiences I’ve ever had! I’ve always been a fan of avocado on toast with egg and tomatoes, but the balsamic vinegar was a total game‑changer. Like, OMG I’d never thought of that combo before, but it’s now my new favourite. To drink, I went for a delicious, frothy Chai Latte of course! As most of my readers know, I’m a sucker for a good chai, and this one was absolutely perfect.

Elliott went for the waffles with bacon and syrup and thought they were very tasty. He said the dish was filling, and the sweetness of the syrup paired beautifully with the savoury bacon, sweet‑and‑savoury perfection. Very American, and simply delicious.

I had the pleasure of meeting one of the chefs, and you could really see her passion for cooking when she spoke about the dish. The staff were all super friendly, funny, and kind, with warm smiles and bubbly personalities. They didn’t wear uniforms, but I loved their styles, fun, fashionably casual outfits fit perfectly with the laid‑back theme of the place.

All the food was beautifully presented, and the whole place had a wonderfully relaxed, boho atmosphere. Definitely somewhere I’d love to revisit!
