Have You Ever Eaten A Pink Burger Bun?
I ate a pink burger bun! There was no other way for me to start this review. I never thought I would be writing that I ate a pink burger bun, and yet I have now just written it twice.
I am confident I have caught your attention now, so let me tell you that while on my narrowboat trip, our final stop was Macclesfield, where I ate at the very intriguing Gastown restaurant. Gastown is a unique place. Everywhere I looked, the interior design was fun and quirky. It was all different, but as a whole, it worked well as a design. The colours that wouldn’t have matched together actually looked great, and the decor that you would think would make it look cluttered didn’t. I absolutely loved the gold mirror; it was so simple yet effective. The detailed doodle drawings all over the signs were so fun and creative. There were so many things that stood out for me. The sign was very busy-looking, but not chaotic. I really enjoyed just looking around and seeing all its unique style.
Now, on to the main event: the food. I went for the halloumi burger, which includes chilli jam, onion, halloumi, and avocado. And wow, what a burger it was! The burger was a tasty mix of sweet but savoury, with a little kick from the chilli jam. And to top it off, the chips were some of the best chips I have ever tasted. I love a bit of sauce on my chips, but I didn’t reach for the ketchup once. They were so soft and salty. These were the best chips I’ve had in a long time. The dish was nicely presented. I couldn't believe that the bun was pink. I found this to be another unique touch. I was a bit skeptical at first, as I’m not a fan of seeded buns, but I couldn’t even tell because my taste buds were dancing all over the place from the fantastic combination of sweet and salty, the perfect texture of soft and chewy halloumi, and the freshness from the avocado. I highly recommend this dish to anyone dining at Gastown.
Unfortunately, I was so full from my mains that I was unable to fit in cake, but I have to comment on how wonderful it all looked. It was all very well presented, and I’m gutted I didn’t get the chance to sample any. However, hopefully, I will visit again, and if so, I will have to have dessert first.
For my non-veggie eaters out there, my boyfriend got the Philly steak sandwich, and he recommends this dish to any meat lovers out there. He thought the dish itself was a very generous portion size, and the flavours went so well. When I asked him what he thought, all he could say was he absolutely loved it!
Customer service was very nice. Our servers were polite and friendly, and all the food was served in a timely manner. I was overly fond of this place and hope to visit again.
Who knows, maybe next time the burger bun will be blue.
