Home cooked meals vs. Eating out: Which is better?

Now this is a real debate for me, because honestly, you can’t go wrong with either.

I genuinely enjoy both, but for very different reasons. Whether it’s cooking at home or going out for a meal, each one brings its own kind of experience and that’s what makes it such a hard choice.I do actually love cooking, and it’s something me and my fiancé really enjoy doing together. It’s more than just making food, it’s proper quality time.

We’ll try new dishes, improve our cooking skills, and just enjoy being in the kitchen together. We’re both proper foodies, so anything that involves food is already a win — but especially if it involves onions. We’ve got a little ongoing tradition where, whenever we’re cutting onions, we always put a bit aside to snack on with some cheese. It’s a must. No exceptions.

There’s always music on, a little dance here and there, and plenty of chatting. It’s relaxed, it’s fun, and it feels really natural. Plus, we get to do it all in our comfy’s, which just makes it even better. No pressure, no rush, just good food and good company.

That being said, going out for food is a completely different kind of experience and one I also really enjoy.

There’s something nice about getting dressed up, making a bit of an effort, and turning it into a proper occasion. A dinner date always feels special, even if it’s something simple. And of course, there’s the biggest perk… no cooking and no cleaning up afterwards.

You get to sit back and enjoy a full meal, from starter to main to dessert, all made to a high standard. It’s a bit of a treat. The downside, though, is that eating out can be expensive, and depending on where you go, it can be busy, loud, and sometimes a bit overwhelming. It’s not always that calm, relaxed environment you might want.

So, Which Is Better?

I honestly love and enjoy both, and I think they each have their place. But if I had to pick, my heart would probably go with a home-cooked meal. It’s more relaxing and more casual. It’s also cheaper, easier, and gives us that proper quality time together which, for us, is what it’s really about and the food of course.

What about you? Do you prefer the comfort of a home-cooked meal, or the experience of eating out?
