Indulgent Delights: A Taste of Barnaby's Chocolate Shop
Chocolate! Chocolate! Chocolate! Hi, my name is Alex, and I am a chocoholic! Knowing this about me, you can guess that I would be super excited to hear of a new chocolate bar business opening in London called Barnaby's. They opened up a tester kitchen only a few months ago and so far seem to be doing well, but I had to experience Barnaby for myself. I got 3 different chocolate bars and am so excited to share my review, so keep reading.
Chocolate Bar No.1: TipTap ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The TipTap was a peanut butter, salted caramel, peanuts, and peanut cookie combo; That is a lot of peanuts. Now, if I'm being honest, I didn’t have much hope of liking this one as I'm not a fan of peanut butter; “Why did you get a peanut butter flavour then?” I know it makes no sense, but when ordering, I decided to go for a wildcard and asked the man serving me to choose 3 different flavours to make the experience more spontaneous. This also meant I would be exploring a range of flavours instead of sticking to my comfort zone. I’ve always found peanut butter very questionable; however, I am a sucker for anything salted caramel, and the salted caramel flavour was very enjoyable. I just don’t think the peanut butter and peanuts were for me. However, the milk chocolate that coats all the bars is very soft, smooth, and chocolatey, and all the flavours seem to complement each other well. Unfortunately, due to personal preferences, I'm just not a fan of peanut butter, but if you're a peanut butter lover, then I think you would find this chocolate bar combo to be of high standards.
Chocolate Bar No.2: Noisy ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The next Barnaby bar I tried was a hazelnut white chocolate, hazelnut butter, and pretzel biscuit. For me, the white chocolate was again very smooth and sweet tasting, and I found that the hazelnut went really well with the white chocolate. My only concern about this concoction was the crunch in the middle; it was quite difficult to bite through the centre of the pretzel biscuit, so I do think it needs to be a bit softer. However, the moment I bit into it hard enough, it crumbled away in my mouth, mixing with the white chocolate and hazelnut. Again, this bar was coated beautifully with milk chocolate; very soft, smooth, and chocolatey.
Chocolate Bar No.3: Dollar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I found myself conflicted with the first two bar combos because they were both nice, but I do feel that there are some improvements to be made. But this Barnaby bar, the Dollar; Their take on a millionaire shortbread… OMG! It was delicious! As I bit into the chocolate bar, my taste buds merged with the smooth milk chocolate melting in my mouth, the crumbly biscuit; a texture I really enjoyed and complimented excellently by sweet caramel. This was hands down the best Barnaby bar I tried; the Dollar flavours are spot on, and the recipe for this one has easily been perfected.
Overall, I was really intrigued to try these chocolate bars, and I'm glad I got the chance to. I loved the simplicity of the bars. Yes, they all look the same, but the names and flavours all have originality to them. I feel like Barnaby bars has really focused on taste and created different varieties of flavours that would appeal to so many people, and I can happily say I do look forward to trying more of the Barnaby Bar flavours.
I am a little bit debatable about the prices because I do think they are a bit expensive for a chocolate bar; however, at the same time, this is not your typical chocolate bar that you would go and buy from the shop on the corner of your street. The best way I can describe this feeling is as if I was standing in line waiting to get my modern-day Willy Wonka chocolate bar. I do hope they achieve their goal of going from a test kitchen to a proper chocolate bar shop and expanding on more creative and fun recipes, and you can best believe I will be in that line waiting for the doors to open. If you are a chocolate lover, I do recommend trying the Barnaby experience for yourself.
So make sure when you're in London, you Barnaby!
