Netflix Originals vs Disney+ Originals: Which One Really Delivers?

The world of streaming services is bigger than ever, and with so many platforms competing for our attention, the real question becomes: which one actually delivers the best original content? For a long time, I would have confidently said Disney+. Their early originals felt exciting, polished, and full of promise. But over the past year or so, my opinion has completely shifted.
These days, I honestly believe Netflix originals are outperforming Disney+ originals.
Why My Opinion Changed:
There was a time when Disney+ felt fresh and exciting. It had the nostalgia factor, the big franchises, and the promise of high-quality storytelling. However, over the last year or so, I’ve found myself feeling increasingly let down by their original content. While the production value is often great, many of the shows feel predictable or heavily tied to existing franchises.
Netflix, on the other hand, seems to constantly deliver new stories, different genres, and a wider variety of characters and creators. It feels like they’re willing to take more risks and experiment with storytelling, which keeps things interesting for viewers.
Netflix Originals That Have Won Me Over; Some of the best Netflix originals I’ve watched recently include:
Virgin River
My Life with the Walter Boys
Never Have I Ever
Wednesday
Bridgerton
The Night Agent
Geek Girl
Each of these shows offers something different; from cosy romance and coming-of-age stories to mystery, drama, and high-stakes thrillers. That variety is something Netflix does extremely well.
And it’s not just the series that stand out. Netflix also continues to produce entertaining original films, including:
The Thursday Murder Club
Mother of the Bride
Murder Mystery
Red Notice
Enola Holmes
Knives Out
These films prove that Netflix understands how to create fun, engaging stories with strong casts and wide audience appeal.
One of the biggest reasons I think Netflix currently has the edge is variety. The platform offers a huge range of genres, storylines, and diverse casts of actors and actresses. Whether you’re in the mood for romance, mystery, comedy, drama, or something completely different, Netflix almost always has something new to watch.
Disney+ still has its strengths, particularly when it comes to family content and major franchises, but the range of original storytelling feels much narrower in comparison.
Both Netflix and Disney+ are major players in the streaming world, and each has its own strengths. But for me personally, Netflix originals have been far more exciting and satisfying to watch recently. They offer more variety, more creative storytelling, and a wider selection of shows and films that keep me coming back for more.
A year or two ago, I might have argued the opposite. But right now, when it comes to original content, Netflix is definitely winning this streaming battle.
What do you think Netflix or Disney+?
