Quality Street: Classic Look vs New Design – Why the Original Design Still Feels Like Christmas

Every Christmas, there are a few things you can always count on; The tree lights twinkling, festive music playing somewhere in the background, decorations in every room, and of course, a tin of Quality Street sitting on the table. It’s one of those little touches that instantly makes it feel like Christmas.

Recently Quality streets packaging has been update and for me, I’ll always choose the classic look, There’s just something about that old-school purple tin the colours, the shine of the wrappers, and that nostalgic feeling it brings. It’s not just chocolate; it’s comfort, it’s family, it’s home. The original design holds so many memories. You can almost picture it: Everyone gathered around after dinner, passing the tin around, trying to find their favourite before someone else gets it, mine was the strawberry creams and orange creams, although me and my nanny loved the chewy Pennys too. It’s those small moments that make the season special.

I’m not really a fan of the updated version, it being modernised, I get that brands want to keep up with the times, but some things are better left as they are. The classic Quality Street tin doesn’t need a redesign it already means something to people. It reminds us of our childhood, our grandparents’ living rooms, or sitting by the Christmas tree surrounded by family and laughter. The new look might be trendy, but it just doesn’t give that same warm, nostalgic feeling.

Every year, opening that tin is a tradition, It’s part of what makes Christmas feel complete the rustle of wrappers, the little debates over which flavour is best, the sneaky reach for “just one more.” It’s the kind of simple joy that brings people together, and honestly, that’s what Christmas is all about.

So when it comes to the debate between the new and the classic, I think the answer’s pretty clear classic for the win! Some things don’t need changing to stay special, and Quality Street is definitely one of them.
