ZIZZI - Bankside Restaurant Review
You’ve never been Zizzi? I know, I know… well I finally checked it out in London - Bankside and left with a full tummy and dancing taste buds. As we have already established I do love my food and Italian food is one of my favourites so an Italian restaurant for date night in London seemed right to me.
Now no real food lover can deny that Italians know what they’re doing when it comes to creating the perfect dish of cheese, pasta and full of flavour sauces but when I saw the starter - Breadcrumb risotto rice balls filled with mozzarella goodness, with a smoky tomato sauce on the side I was curious - would rice work in that combination? Would it taste right? Would the textures work well and would it be a satisfying starter? Well, simply put YES! YES! YES! Firstly it was served in a cute little bowl very adorable and the presentation was simple but effective, 5 nicely sized breadcrumb balls filled with rice and delicious mozzarella cheese with the smoky tomato sauce in a cute dipping pot in the middle, they looked, smelled and tasted delicious and would recommend for a starter.
Let’s move to the main - Ravioli parcels filled with goat's cheese and spinach in a Pomodoro sauce finished with pesto and pine nuts. Now tell me that just reading that doesn’t make your mouth water honestly just typing it was making my mouth water… Back to the review Alex focus, haha anyway it was displayed well and I was offered cheese when served my dish and I mean there's only one answer when offered cheese; Hell, Yes! …Please… The food smelled great and looked great, with a beautiful selection of oranges and greens colours and then there was the taste; once again I can only describe as each mouthful left my taste buds dancing, however, there is just one slight change I would have made and that was the pine nuts, as I found them to disrupt the dish and I did end up scraping them off. The ravioli in the dish didn’t quite make sense to me and I found that it ruined the texture of the soft cheese pasta but other than that it was well cooked and went down a treat. Both the starter and main were washed down nicely with a glass of sweet rosè with lemonade - large of course, cause go big or go home, right?
Pricing of food is not always just about the food but also about location and the location was lovely, I mean, what a view. It was beautiful, it was in a cute little booth, very sweet, private and intimate - perfect for a date night, looking out to a view of the River Thames and Southwark Bridge and looking straight over the whole beautiful lit-up city of London. I would say it would be a great idea to include some lights or even a little candle to keep the romantic vibe but also make it a little easier to see the menu, as it was a little too dark. As well as great food, fair prices and beautiful views I must talk about how nice and well mannered the waitress and waiters were. Smiley, polite and great customer service and served food and drink at a very reasonable time. Overall the restaurant atmosphere was pleasant and had me leaving feeling satisfied but also left me admiring the restaurant itself and the views around.
So if you are ever in London near Bankside, I would recommend checking out Zizzi restaurant.
